Bad News for Anderson and Manchester United

Manchester United's Anderson ruptured his cruciate ligament in the comeback game against West Ham on Tuesday, so will be out for around six months.

That`s not good news for the forthcoming Champions League tie with Milan on Tuesday week with Michael Carrick suspended.

Manchester United`s next match of course is against Aston Villa this Sunday 28th February in the Carling Cup Final.

Rooney Puts Manchester United Back Within a Point of Chelsea

Rooney’s 26th and 27th goals of the season, both headers, gave Manchester United a big boost as they beat West Ham by 3-0. The 3rd goal came courtesy of Michael Own, just a couple of minutes after coming on as substitute.

Strange night really. Anderson limped off just 19 minutes into his first appearance for over a month. Ferdinand has a back injury and Fergie has stated he won`t be available for the Carling Cup final this Sunday. At least Vidic was back in the side.

Antonia Valencia did what he does very well, getting the ball into the box from the wing. And twice it resulted in goals for Wayne Rooney.

United are now one point behind Chelsea, though they`ve played one more game.

AC Milan 2 Manchester United 3

Wayne Rooney was on top form as Manchester United rode their luck before coming from behind to secure a memorable 3-2 victory over AC Milan as 80,000 watched the game at the San Siro.

A pity about the 85th-minute strike from Clarence Seedorf that gave Milan renewed hope. A pity too that the return leg will be played without Michael Carrick after the midfield player was sent off for a second bookable offence in stoppage time.

United really were under the cosh after conceding a third-minute goal to Ronaldinho.

But, Manchester United did hit back through a fortunate goal from Paul Scholes when the ball went in off his standing leg. Two second-half goals from the that man Rooney before Seedorf’s late intervention set the stage for a mouthwatering second leg.

Manchester United Draw Against Villa

Collins own goal

Wth Chelsea losing by 2-1 to Everton last night it was an ideal opportunity for Manchester United to go back to the top of the Premiership. Unfortunately though they could only manage a draw against Aston Villa, 1-1.

There have been 10 own goals against teams playing United.  That`s no fluke, the quality of delivery has resulted in those own goals.

Last night  James Collins nudged a Ryan Giggs cross beyond his own goalkeeper.

Darren Fletcher said: 'If you put the ball into the right area it’s difficult to defend. If you can whip the ball in between the goalkeeper and the defence there’s a chance one of your players can get onto the end of it.`

Portuguese winger Nani was shown a straight red card for a clumsy two-footed tackle on Stiliyan Petrov midway through the first half.

Even so, Aston Villa forgot at times they were playing at home and against 10 men. When they went forward there were few players on the attack and they were easily outnumbered by United players. It was United who went forward more and were the side looking for the win.

United Back on Top

Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov scored just two of the five goals Manchester United scored against Portsmouth.

No wonder Pompey are bottom of the Premiership, they accounted for three of the goals United scored - own goals in fact.

So, United go back to the top, at least until Chelsea take on Arsenal tomorrow.
