AC Milan 2 Manchester United 3

Wayne Rooney was on top form as Manchester United rode their luck before coming from behind to secure a memorable 3-2 victory over AC Milan as 80,000 watched the game at the San Siro.

A pity about the 85th-minute strike from Clarence Seedorf that gave Milan renewed hope. A pity too that the return leg will be played without Michael Carrick after the midfield player was sent off for a second bookable offence in stoppage time.

United really were under the cosh after conceding a third-minute goal to Ronaldinho.

But, Manchester United did hit back through a fortunate goal from Paul Scholes when the ball went in off his standing leg. Two second-half goals from the that man Rooney before Seedorf’s late intervention set the stage for a mouthwatering second leg.
