Wenger Loses Cool as Arsenal Beaten 2-1

Arsene Wenger received a red card in the final seconds of Arsenal's 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Saturday night.

He was sent to the stands by referee Mike Dean after kicking a water bottle down the touchline in frustration after Robin van Persie`s equaliser was ruled offside.

Andrey Arshavin scored the first of the goals. Wayne Rooney converted a penalty after being brought down by Manuel Almunia. Abou Diaby then headed an own goal that ultimately proved to be the matchwinner.

I felt a bit sorry for Wenger as he headed for the seats behind the dugout, only to find there were not any, and was eventually ushered towards the tunnel as his side suffered a defeat which was very hard to take.

Rooney has now scored five goals in five games this season, and is in excellent form.

Manchester United Campaign Starts Well

Three of the top four teams of last year won in the opening days of the new football sason.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all had wins. Liverpool went down 2-1 at Spurs.

Even though United only beat Birmingham City 1-0 with a Wayne Rooney goal it gives them a good start with three points on the board.

Pundits Go For Manchester United to Retain Premiership Title

Manchester United begin their defence of the Premiership title later today when they take on Birmingham City at Old Trafford.

I thought it interesting on BBCs Match of the Day last night that several pundits-Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, and Mark Lawrenson earlier in the day on Football Focus-thought that Manchester United will win the title again at the end of the season. That`s despite the Red Devils losing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alan Hanson, one of the other pundits, thinks Liverpool will win it.

Manchester United Lose in Community Shield

The Community Shield whet the appetite for the new season, with some wholehearted tackling going on.

It started with a minute`s silence for Sir Bobby Robson, and ended in a penalty shoot-out which Chelsea won.

And when it came to that shoot-out Chelsea were the better side. Patrice Evra`s effort was woeful.

Nani played well for the first ten minutes, scoring United`s first goal. But, he`s no replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Wayne Rooney, whose slickly-taken equaliser right on the final whistle cancelled out strikes by Carvalho and Frank Lampard, was back and threatened the Chelsea goal more than once.

Edwin van der Sar Out after Pathetic Pre-Season Friendly

How pathetic is that? Why on earth football teams need to play so many pre-season `friendlies` is beyond me! By the end of every season many teams are complaining about the length of the season here in England, yet they make it that way because they start touring the world well before the proper season even gets under way. No wonder they are so tired by June.

The more games, the more risk of injury. Right? And now Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is out for up to two months after breaking a finger in a friendly against Bayern Munich last week when saving a penalty.

United`s Premier League campaign opens against Birmingham City on August 16.
