Scholes Queries Why Capello Slow In Asking Him To Return to England Side

Paul Scholes has said he would have accepted Fabio Capello's request to come out of international retirement and play for England for the World Cup if he had not been asked at such a late stage.

Scholes has questioned why England's manager had waited until only a few weeks before the tournament to see whether he could be tempted to join the party to South Africa.

The midfielder has been to two World Cups and two European Championships with England but retired from international football six years ago, at the age of 29. He wanted to concentrate on his club career and spend more time with his family.
