The Hammers Hammered by Manchester United

Scholes, Gibson, Valencia and Rooney all appeared on the scoresheet on Saturday as Manchester United hammered the Hammers.

It was all too easy after Paul Scholes put the visitors in front with a trademark shot that very few goalkeepers would have saved. Scholes was immaculate in this match, and he set a good example to Darron Gibson who has scored 3 goals for the Red Devils during the week.

Gibson smashed home a fantastic strike from 25 yards to make it 2-0 on the hour, running on to Giggs’s perfectly-weighted pass to curl the ball home.

Scholes has been talking about retiring at the end of the season as he`s now not getting as many first team games as he`d like. That really would be a great shame. Scholes has been a great ambassador for United over the years, as has Ryan Giggs. It`ll be a sad day at Old Trafford when they retire.

Sadly, not all was plain sailing, as the defensive side of things took more knocks, and even midfielders had to take their place at the back. With four central defenders absent, Gary Neville started, but departed injured in the 33rd minute to be replaced by Carrick, the England midfielder. That`s the first time Carrick had played in that position, but fortunately for him and his team he wasn`t called on to do too much defending.

With Manchester City doing United a favour by beating Chelsea 2-1 the difference at the top of the Premiership is now just two points.
